Biography:
Black Vulcan is a DC Comics character, although he notably originated in animation rather than the comic books themselves. He first appeared in the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, Super Friends, specifically in the "The Planet Splitter" episode of the show's second season (1977).
Created due to perceived lack of diversity on the show, Black Vulcan possesses the power of electricity manipulation. He can generate and control lightning bolts, often shouting "Great Lightning!" when activating his abilities.
Despite being a member of the Super Friends, Black Vulcan's origins are somewhat ambiguous within the cartoon's continuity. He has often been the butt of jokes from fans of the show.
More recently, he appeared as a minor character in The Lego Batman Movie, voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson. His animated presence is the character's most well-known aspect.
